YOUNG IN Europe, a dynamic website set up by two Manchester students, Benji and Dan, has been awarded the Times website of the week in the Saturday Times travel section.
While Student Direct recognised the potential of the website months ago, it seems that the nationals were a bit slower in catching on. Never the less the boys were delighted to have had their hard work rewarded, by such a widely read paper.
The website is the brainchild of Benji: while travelling around Europe he thought that the guidebooks were missing the point; what he really wanted was recommendations from other travellers. He realised that the internet would be the perfect place to set up such a network, and so called in his friend Dan, a self confessed ‘techno wonk’, to turn the idea into a reality. The website is filled with other young travellers’ advice on which places to go in Europe whether it be a funky bar or café, cheap places to stay or sites to see.
Since October the website has had a few facelifts with the help of some of their friends from Brighton and Leeds, and the boys say they are now happy with it. Benji added that while they were really pleased with the Times’ recognition the best reward they’ve had so far was when their friends came back from travelling in Europe and heard people talking about the site.
